"If he's dead, then calling me home is either a sick joke, or a trap," Evan replied simply. "And if this is one of those rare messed-up times in my reality when someone who's supposed to be dead doesn't stay that way... that's a risk I have to take. I'm braced for it being one of the first two."
And either way, Evan figured, Karina probably wouldn't be too broken up inside no matter what was waiting for him back there.
